Just for Starters
I'm thinking of getting Freedom United. I know I could look around and find the answers to all of these, but I'm feeling a bit lazy tonight and I wanted to make a new thread/post something so here goes!
What system do people play MHFU on? Is there an "on-line" feature? How does MHFU compare to MHP3rd? Can I play MHP3rd "on-line"?
As you might have guessed, I really enjoy on-line play with people who know what they are doing or that are fun to play with. I am looking at purchasing a PSP or PS3, depending on the game. I'm leaning toward PS3 because Capcom is coming out with a new game (Dragon's Dogma) that I can with on a PS3. I am thinking of getting a used PS3. Anyway, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I may even get a chance to play with some of you on-line outside of Tri, since that is my only game right now, as far as the MH series goes.
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Just for Starters
There really isn't a direct online way to play. BUT if you buy a ps3 or own a computer (which i can tell you do..) you can play online using a program for each. PS3 has Ad Hoc party, which requires a direct ethernet connection to your PS3, has voice chat and 4 player rooms. Or you can use Xlink Kai on a computer which requires a wifi-adapter and a weekend of patience, rooms range from 1-16 size.
You would be surprised at the community in Unite, i know we complain about it but there are usually 2-9 rooms in AHP most days i go in, it's just finding people to play with that will help you and not be douches.
Hope that helped!

go with a PS3 first, it'll open more gaming oppertunities first. then get a PSP later on.
if your getting a Used PS3, don't just buy it right away, Always request that they show prove to you that the system works, the disk drive works, and that the Hard drive has been emptied of any previous game saves, photos, music, videos and that the original owner's user log in has been deleted and that a default "user 1" log in is present. i know it sounds like alot, but because theres not as many PS3s in used stock as there are other consoles, theres a good chance the one your about to buy might have serious faults to it. if they refuse to do this, i suggest you move. no game store can garantee that the system is 100% unless they prove it to you. the PS3 is a computer, and should be treated the same way you would when buying a used computer.

Absolutely. Gamestop usually is a good bet however, but they're so overpriced. Been tryin to sell my used Launch PS3 for a while now, Gamestop will only give me $80 for it. Rip. Off.
But yeah, the PS3 is just gonna make you all tingly inside anyway.
Re: Just for Starters
MHFU is on the PSP, but I did hear something about Capcom putting it on the PSN for Vita and maybe PS3.
MHFU DOES have online play, but it's by using Wireless (ie, not a very big range), but there are alternatives to get you to a mass number of online players. Either by PC (X-Link Kai) or PS3 (Ad Hoc Party).
I don't recommend Kai. I've been struggling with it. But both methods create a wireless connection, but a global one. So you can connect with anyone.
MHP3rd works in the same manner. Reason why they have this is because in Japan, it's a pretty small place and there was no need for something bigger.
As for the difference between FU and 3rd - FU is the harder one with more bugs and has more monsters in it. 3rd is based around Tri with some new species and subspecies.

Re: Just for Starters
I GOT A PSP 3000 and MHFU!!!!!!!!!! I am so stinkin' happy right now! So, my adventure begins slowly. I'm still addicted to Tri. So I don't have my PS3, YET, but I'm on FREEDOM UNITE!!! Time to read the threads and start my quests!! VT, you have to be my first friend on MHFU, however that works out!.
I'm going out of town Sunday for a week, so I'll have plenty of time to figure things out and come up with some questions! Any suggestions???

Oh i got you. Do you have xlink kai at all? probably not seeing as its your first PSP. Well, be sure to let me know IMMEDIATELY when you get set up with a ps3 or kai and i will be there! You should buy a ps3 and a headset tho... just sayin. And feel free to PM for any questions if you don't want to take up board space - or better yet, make a question thread and put "updated: 7/18" everytime you have a new question.
Step 1: make a felyne friend. bomb it to death.

I highly support the bomb the hell out of a felyne friend. If you don't they'll get to cocky and eventually bomb the hell out of you. Show it who it's master is. And don't let it fuckin' forget it.

Re: Just for Starters
I would totally play with you but my hacked PSP took a dump and that had my MHP2NDG game on it. I still got the save data, but I have an unhackable (for the time being anyway) PSP 3000 and I don't think my MHP2NDG save would be compatible with FU. Unless I can use my save for that. If that's the case (Karl, any idea?) I could buy FU from PSN and help you out if you need it. I'm HR9 in that game with literally just about every weapon and armor in the game with a just about maxed out Guild Card and looooooooots of hours into it. That is...if I can use my save data.
